Paris 2024 was the first Olympic Games to place competition venues at the heart of a historic city rather than on a purpose-built peripheral site. The decision — to hold beach volleyball in front of the Eiffel Tower, fencing in the Grand Palais, marathon swimming in the Seine — was both a statement about Paris and a genuine architectural achievement. This circuit reads that achievement alongside the permanent sporting infrastructure that has defined Parisian sport for over a century: the national stadium, the clay courts of Roland-Garros, and the arenas that have been reinvented multiple times since they were first built.

What Makes This Circuit Different

🏅
A circuit born from Paris 2024

I followed the Games from preparation to closing ceremony, driving athletes, media and officials throughout. What I offer here is not a historical tour but a personal account of what the city went through and what it left behind.

🏗️
Architecture as ambition

Each venue on this circuit represents a specific moment of French architectural ambition — from the Beaux-Arts grandeur of the Grand Palais to the wave-form roof of the new Aquatics Centre.

📐
The permanent Olympic legacy

The Athletes' Village, the Aquatics Centre and the upgraded arena infrastructure were designed as permanent neighbourhood assets. We visit them as the working buildings they have now become.

🌍
Paris as a city that performs

The choice to stage the Olympics in the city's existing fabric — rather than behind security perimeters on the edge of town — was a statement about what Paris believes itself to be. That statement is worth examining on the ground.

Driving the Olympic City

During the Games, I drove routes that crossed competition zones, passed through security corridors and navigated a Paris that had reorganised itself entirely around two weeks of sport. That experience — of seeing the city transform and then reassemble itself — is part of what I bring to this circuit. The buildings are permanent; the memory of what they were used for, and how the city felt during those weeks, is something I can share directly.

Chauffeur's Tips

  • The Grand Palais alternates between exhibitions and sports events — the programme changes regularly; worth checking before your visit
  • The Stade de France is in Saint-Denis, about 25 minutes from central Paris — I include it in the full circuit and we can combine it with the Saint-Denis Basilica if time allows
  • The new Aquatics Centre has public swimming sessions — if you want to swim in an Olympic pool, it is now possible to book online
